  • Starting batteries deliver short bursts of high current; deep cycle batteries are built for steady discharge over hours.
  • Size a house battery by Ah: add up your daily amp-hours and allow headroom so you don't drain lead-acid batteries too far.
  • Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are lighter and handle deeper discharge but need a lithium-compatible charger or DC-DC charger.
  • Two 6 V deep cycle batteries in series make a 12 V bank with more capacity than one 12 V battery of the same size.
